SPRING CLASS OF 2014
The Dream Builders Academy served five participants, ranging in ages from 25 to 50 years old, all residing in targeted/required Charlottesville community. All participants provided supporting income documentation meeting family and household income requirements.As a note of interest, most respondents and all of the qualified applicants are representatives of faith based congregations in the localities.
Dream Builders Academy participants completed 9 sessions and graduation commenced on Monday April 28th. A total of 4 women entered into culmination business pitch to a panel of 4 judges for seed awards to further business goals. The following finalists were awarded:
$1500 First Place Prize winner: Christy Baker – Good Bones Paint Products
$1000 Second Place Prize Winner: Pronta Anderson – Hands to Design Hair Salon
$750 Third Place Prize Winner: Laketa Kelley – Blossoms Child Care
$750 Third Place Prize Winner: Destiny Moore – Significant Cosmetics
POST-ACADEMY PLANS:
Pronta Anderson has been successfully enrolled in the ACE (Assisting Charlottesville Entrepreneur) Program for continued marketing development and technical support. Academy involvement has helped to solidify, develop and formalize the actual business plan. The business has also completed DUNS registration.
Christy Baker solidified business plan goals, applied and has been accepted into the Incubation Lab at UVA Darden School of Business to further research, refine and conduct additional target market development for her paint products. Christy has completed DUNS registration.
Laketa Kelly completed business plan development and has been partnered for continued mentoring with MACAA (Monticello Area Community Action Agency) Head start program manager. Through engagement with MACAA programs she will receive additional support and assistance for continued market research, benchmarking and collaborative childcare project development.
Destiny Moore completed business plan development and has been partnered with independent consultant Debbie Cosby to receive additional coaching for continued cosmetic line production, marketing and development planning.
Cassandra Christmas was unfortunately unable to complete the program due to time conflicts. She is still eligible to complete the academy during next session is she desires.
